Lawsuit Claims Fantasy Jungle Failed to Pay

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

An Illinois man has filed suit against the site Fantasy Jungle, claiming that it has failed to pay him winnings due from last football season.

The complaint, which was reportedly filed in St. Clair County circuit court on Aug. 12, alleges that Fantasy Jungle owner Mike Williams contacted Jared Danielson in December to inform Danielson that he had won. According to the suit, Danielson chose to take a cash prize rather than allow the site to withhold the money to pay entry into future contests.

The suit claims that Danielson was later told via e-mail that his check would be sent out in February. Six months later, that check allegedly has yet to arrive.

The report doesn’t specify how much Danielson is seeking in the suit, though it does say that he’s asking for “unspecified damages, plus attorney’s fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.”

FSB.com will pass along any updates to this case as we see them.

FSB Daily 8/28: Fantasy Joe, Draft Analyzer, Fantasy Sports Madness

Friday, August 28th, 2009

A roundup of recent posts on the FSB News page.

- Fantasy Joe is among the online communities recently launched by USA Today. Moderators Matt Pitzer and Pete O’Brien moderate, post content and promise to address reader questions.

- Advanced Sports Media has launched two ways to get its Draft Analyzer on your iPhone. The free Cheat Sheet app provides player rankings and offers pick recommendations. The $4.99 Draft Analyzer Pro — Mock Draft lets you simulate a whole draft from your handheld with malleable league sizes, draft positions and competition levels.

- Those who like to play in NFL survivor pools might find this fantasy game from FantasySportsMadness.com interesting: No player can be used more than once during the season. It should be easy to find a receiver of value each week, but selecting quarterbacks will take some forethought.

Di Fino’s Five Tips to Enhance Your Fantasy Draft

Friday, August 28th, 2009

With the third full slate of NFL exhibition games upon us, it’s serious fantasy football draft time everywhere. As Nando Di Fino points out in his Wall Street Journal column this week, the explosion of fantasy means you have to do a little more to be prepared these days.

Di Fino gives us five quick ways to make sure that we’re ready …

1. Lobby for an auction draft - Many fantasy veterans will agree with this one for the same reason Di Fino states: It puts every player in play for every participant. You’re not limited by your draft spot. Of course, navigating this style likely takes experience and/or some serious preparatory studying.

2. Decide between analog and digital — OK, so this serves to point out the options available now whether you have a tech-savvy group or folks who prefer the simple things. Pretty cool to see what’s out there, though.

3. Read ESPN.com’s Stephania Bell — There’s no arguing that this injury guru provides some valuable analysis for fantasy players.

4. Learn how to make “queso fundido” — I tried to type out the full recipe for this cheesy, spicy dip from chef Tim Spinner of Distrito in Philadelphia, but my drool shorted out the keyboard. Check it out for yourself (even if you’re a vegetarian and would like to leave out the sausage).

5. Practice against the RapidDraft pros — Di Fino sees value in drafting against 11 experts (a group that includes Yours Truly) before squaring off with your friends. Who are we to argue?

Reminder: The Audible 12-Hour Cystic Fibrosis Benefit on Saturday

Friday, August 28th, 2009

As we reported nearly three weeks ago, Cecil Lammey and Sigmund Bloom of Footballguys.com will be hosting a 12-hour megashow on BlogTalkRadio’s The Fantasy Sports Channel on Saturday (Aug. 29) to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis research.

The Audible’s Drive for Cystic Fibrosis will kick off at noon Eastern on the FSC and run all the way to midnight (for the non-math majors in our audience), with Footballguys.com’s Matt Waldman and Andrew Garda of ThunderingBlurb.com stepping in for 30-minute breaks at 3 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The hosts will be talking football and fantasy football all day with a slew of guests (including me at 4 p.m.). Bloom says the “tentative” schedule of topics looks like this …

12:00-1:30 — Quarterbacks
1:30-4:30 — Running Backs
4:30-7:30 — Wide Receivers
7:30-9:00 — Tight Ends/Kickers/Defenses
9:00-12:00 — Free for all

A donation site has been set up in conjunction with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
