Ricky Williams + Fantasy Football = Help for Soldiers’ Families
Thursday, August 13th, 2009Fantasy4Charity.com has partnered with World Fantasy Games in leveraging fantasy football’s popularity to help out military families in need, an effort that will get a boost from the promotional efforts of Ricky Williams.
According to the press release, the Dolphins running back will make promotional appearances on behalf of the effort and seek to shed light on the need to support families of American soldiers who have been injured or killed.
“I am honored that I was invited to support this cause and intend to put as much effort into this off-the-field as I put on-the-field each Sunday,” Williams said via the release.
Fantasy4Charity.com has set up an affiliate partnership with RapidDraft, in which proceeds from the entry fees will go to help military families via the site’s parent charity, Helping Hands for Freedom.
“With traditional charitable giving becoming more difficult, our goal was to create a giving initiative unlike any other,” Rodney Smith, CEO of Helping Hands and former all-conference punt returner at Nebraska, said in the release. “RapidDraft gives everyone a chance to donate less than $10 and have a chance to win $250,000.”
Among other projects, Helping Hands for Freedom is developing a “national mentorship program” for children who have had a parent killed in combat.
In addition to making personal appearances, Williams will reportedly promote the program via a blog and through interactions on Twitter.
